I just had a really wonderful thing happen - at a Sears store of all places. Back in August, 2010 I bought a set of tires for our truck and spent $900+ on four new tires. Well, about two weeks ago the guy changing our oil told me these were the wrong tires and were not rated high enough for this truck. To make a long story short, my wife pushed me to go back to Sears to at least talk with them about this and so today I went reluctantly.
The manager came out and immediately looked at my receipt and then at the truck and he said, "I'm so sorry, we sold you the wrong tires." He messed with his computer and then said, the difference in cost between what you bought and the correct tires is $117 - would you be willing to pay me that and then we'll just swap the tires for you.....about one hour later I left with four brand new 10 ply tires with 80 lbs of pressure in each of them.
So, if and when you need tires, buy them at Sears and tell them you're here because they treated another customer really well.

After retiring from my position as CEO of the Chicago Christian Counseling Center, Marty and I are planning a 8-10 week trip to Alaska - our dream trip. We are going to be driving our Ford F-250 Diesel truck with a 1500 lb camper mounted on the back. It will be a very small home, dry, all the necessities, but did I say small?

Update
Well, 40 days till I leave the Counseling Center. My last day will more than likely be Tuesday morning, April 26. We plan to go to Michigan to see our grand daughters in a school play that night. Then, that weekend we are camping with friends and May will begin.
As far as planning for our trip goes, all necessary reservations are made, we have purchased the MILEPOST, planned our route for the most part, had the pickup camper all checked out and now it's just the exciting anticipation. Funny, I always wonder if the trip itself will be as much fun as the preparation...I think this will be. I am already feeling less work pressure - glad to leave some decisions up to the new guy starting April 4. I just have to get through 3 more payroll periods.
So, my next post on here may be from somewhere along the way on our lifetime trip to Alaska. We're all ready - except for the packing :) Watch for more after Memorial Day weekend. I'll try to put up pictures along the way too. Bruce

One more reservation
Since we are planning to leave Denali on July 5 we decided that it would be best to have reservations for July 5 and 6 in the Anchorage area. So we are staying at the "Golden Nugget" campground. Much of this trip is without reservations - but it seems the holidays might be busier.
Can't wait!

Camper
Well, well....today I went and picked up our small little camper. It took me nearly 4.5 hours even though I had called them to say I would be there around 1 pm. They had not even started on it yet when I arrived. Oh well, it's home now and sitting in the driveway. After taking some measurements, I plan to bring it to a local trucking company where there is some room to store it for the next 3 months. This just gets us more excited - many things coming together very nicely. Maybe, if I think of it, I'll post a picture on here.

Truck Camper purchased
January 17, 2011
Last week Monday we bought a small pickup camper at Art’s RV in GlenView. After having the one that we were planning to rent was stolen we decided that we’d better buy one rather than wait to see if the fellow in Grand Rapids would have another one.
Our next planning level will be after we purchase our “MilePost Magazine.” This will better enable us to know when we can plan a ferry tour up into Kenai Fjords Natl. Park. Things are really coming together.

2011 - 4.5 months to go before A day
Well, here we are in 2011 with just a few short months to go before we leave for our trip. Nearly every evening that we are home we spend at least some time planning, dreaming and talking. Since the camper we were going to rent was stolen, we are now faced with the need to buy one since the ferry reservations are for only the truck.
As of today I may have found one. We're going to look at it tomorrow, the 7th of January. We'll buy it for the trip and then probably sell it after we get back home - assumming we can sell it.
